Location

Retford, Nottingham
Value  £1 million
Timescale Year 2000 -
Scope of Works

Globe Architects provided a complete multi-disciplinary design team to the client following competitive tender selection process. The scheme was developed from initial feasibilities to completion on site.

Key Project Particulars

The outdated existing church was not suitable for the clients worship/community requirements. It was structurally unsound and so this was demolished.

The new church incorporated a dedicated worship space with baptism pool, (which could be covered over when not in use) a full stage performance area with sophisticated lighting P.A. console, 1st floor meeting rooms/catering facilities and other offices throughout the 3 floors.

The site was on the edge of a conservation area and the traditional design was supported by the local planning committee.

Planning permission determined the scheme had to be traditional in style and materials. Clay roof tiles, various red multi-facing brick and wet cast stone features are incorporated.

The scheme designed to have excellent acoustic properties in main worship space and this was successfully achieved.

New car park was provided with special construction techniques and sub-base material employed as it was constructed in part of a former burial ground.

The building incorporates a lift giving access to all levels. The scheme is fully DDA compliant.

A landmark community building has been provided for Retford which is well used for a variety of community and worship activities.
